Insurance claim or out-of-pocket?

When you have full coverage automotive insurance there are two deductibles, collision and comprehensive, that will be required to be paid at the time of repair of your vehicle. Your auto glass only claim will be filed under the comprehensive portion of the policy and this portion of your policy is generally quite a bit lower in cost to have covered than the collision portion.

Time and time again we have assisted customers with comprehensive deductibles set too high. While we always try to give the very best non-insurance cash pricing, sometimes the cost of the glass is too expensive to make it affordable. This is why we encourage our customers to check into having a lower comprehensive deductible included in their insurance policy, for their own protection. Most customers state they shopped for their own insurance online or their agent set the deductible high because the customer stated they wanted the lowest rate possible or the agent does not want claims filed. Comprehensive claims generally do not effect policy rate changes.

With today’s more technological automotive features, the cost of auto glass has increased three to four times over the last ten years. There are more features that are either built into the glass itself or attached to it, which could require a new sensor pad, special attachment, or even re-calibration. While we try to do our very best at giving a non-insurance cash quote, we do suggest looking over your policy and making changes that will benefit your efforts in paying for the coverage. Most of the time it’s only a few dollars more per month to have a lowered comprehensive deductible.

Who can I get to replace my broken glass?

If this is the first time you are planning to file a comprehensive claim with your insurance company, most of them use a third party to handle their auto glass claims. Some of the insurance companies/glass networks have their preference in who they send their customers to so they may automatically assign the job to a glass company, but it is 100% up to the customer to decide who they use as their repair company.

If you tell the claim’s agent who you’d like to work with and the claim's agent tries to “steer” you to a company that you don’t like or are not familiar with they may try using scare tactics such as “If they charge more than what we allow, then you will be liable for the balance” or “They are not part of our preferred network”. This is simply not true. For one, you pay no more than your deductible. There are times, however, that customers demand dealer parts that are not available from our regular vendors, and they may incur more part pricing than insurance will allow, so that would be the only time a customer would be charged more than the insurance deductible at any repair facility. And two, the claim’s agents are only doing as told, as this usually comes from a contract that is held between the company and other auto glass companies. This does not mean the customer is bound to their suggested company, it’s still the customer’s choice. All auto glass companies are told by the insurance companies/networks what will be paid and Action Auto Glass is approved to work with any insurance company/network.

No matter how you’re going to choose your auto glass company, self-pay or as an insurance claim, please choose one that gives you a warranty against part defects and service issues and that has a high recommendation— such as Action Auto Glass— your hometown source for your auto glass needs. We look forward to hearing from you!
